As the co-founder and the President of the Black Business Association of Amherst Area, Pat Ononibaku is driven by a passion for economic empowerment and a deep commitment to uplifting her community, she believes that true change starts with one person at a time. Through personalized mentorship and tailored financial literacy education, she empowers underserved individuals to make informed decisions about money, break the cycle of debt, and build generational wealth. Her mission is to ensure that everyone has a pathway to economic security and prosperity.
Ononibaku is a serial entrepreneur with experience across multiple industries. She currently manages a diverse range of businesses, including: BakuCare Adult day Health Center, BakuCare Transport, BakuCare Home Services and Bakus Sleepwear. As a former restaurateur, she focused on her business acumen while managing her catering and restaurant business where she cultivated her passion for hospitality and customer satisfaction. Her catering services reflect a deep value for fresh, flavorful ingredients, cooking techniques passed down through generations and a desire to bring people together over delicious food. She made an impact on the local culinary scene by introducing authentic Nigerian cuisine to the community, creating a space where diverse flavors and traditions could be celebrated and enjoyed.
In addition to her entrepreneurial ventures, Ononibaku is committed to justice and equity. She is a community organizer, activist, advocate, and leader. She is the chair for the Progressive Coalition of Amherst. She served on the two Town Committees: Community Safety Working Group (CSWG) and Community Safety and Social Justice Committee (CSSJC), She is a founding member of the Race and Discipline Action Rights (RaDAR) Committee leveraging her leadership and advocacy skills to empower underserved communities.
Ononibaku is a role model and mentor to youth and adults from diverse backgrounds, passionately guiding and inspiring others to pursue their dreams. Her mentorship reflects her deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those around her. Ononibaku is the recipient of several awards including the Administration of Justice Achievement Award in 2024, also the Jean Haggerty for Community Service Award in 2019. and the Calvin & Grace Coolidge Award (Paragon Award) for Outstanding Public Service in 2010.
Ononibaku is an educator. She taught math and science courses in Nigeria prior to relocating to the United States. As a mother, grandmother, and family matriarch, she brings a nurturing and guiding presence to her family, fostering a legacy of strength, love, and resilience. Her passion for cooking and entertaining shines through as she delights her family and friends with heartfelt
meals and memorable gatherings that recognize her leadership and service to the community. Whether building successful businesses, advocating for change, or bringing joy to her loved ones and friends, Ononibaku embodies a spirit of compassion, and unwavering dedication.
