Amherst Area Gospel Choir

The Amherst Area Gospel Choir is a community gospel choir founded in 2008 under the direction of Jacqueline “Jacqui” Wallace. Its mission is to preserve and advance Black gospel music while honoring its spiritual,
artistic, and cultural traditions. The choir’s repertoire includes spirituals, African diasporic music, classic gospel, and contemporary gospel pieces. The choir is community-oriented and brings together people from diverse backgrounds, and religious traditions through songs. Its performances connect gospel music with themes of faith, Black history, resilience, freedom, and social justice. The choir also participates in community and cultural events, using music to celebrate heritage, inspire audiences, and create a sense of connection.
